Last summer (2010) I spent whole August in United States of America at Young life camp, where I volunteered as a work crew- housekeeper. All of work crew guys were amazing kids, they inspired me every single day I was with them, but our housekeeping group was somehow different, somehow interesting. Three musicians, Scotland girl,-get at me brah-, cheerleader, "my beautiful sister" girl, our boss was the best teenage girl, who´s not teenage anymore- my Czech awesome friend and the guy. His name was Joey. I met him as one of the first people I saw at Saranac and in my head showed up-"WHO´S THAT?!?! actually, WHAT´S THAT?" Joey has his style of clothing and some of teenagers can call it weird and some of them call it super cool. (I personally belongs to the second group) Super skinny tall boy, with almost blond mega curly hair, uncountable number of bracelets on his hands and old school accessories.
My first time, when I spoke to him was in front of dinning hall, where we waited for very first work crew meeting. This talk made me realize, that Americans aren´t that much talkative as they seem. My every question was answered by almost one word and I was getting no new idea what to ask or try to talk about. His very common phrase was- "No I wasn´t. No I didn´t. No I don´t. No I haven´t." That was it. And try to make deep convo with that guy!! After 15minutes connected with sweat and nervousness I decided to give up and made sure, that we will never be friends. Ok. Never say never. Haha.

Every day I got to know a bit from his crazy personality. He was maybe the only person, whose reaction about me going to Lady Gaga concert was freaking out. He loved her so much and I admired him how much he could show it. He was the friend, who I said- "Let´s do something super crazy, totally abnormal." He never disappointed me with his ideas like dancing in laundry room on Taylor Swift´s songs, changing clothe- he wore mine and I his-, eating from one plate one lunch, stealing cookies for each other or from each other or just lying in hammock, talking about differences about Czech and American people.
I loved how Joey could make you laugh with his funny jokes or on the other hand could listen to you and hug you, when you needed. When you were bored, the only thing what made you up was watching Joey. He shined that much! He never stopped asking you questions or there was no chance to stop laugh when It came to that. You know the embarrassing silence parts of your talk? I would never call them embarrassing with Joey.
Saying goodbye was.... like digging one big whole in my heart. The month showed me many things and one of them was, that your dreamed best friend is. He/She is somewhere in the world, it doesn´t have to be next door neighbor and It could be a person, who you don´t have anything to talk about, but once in your life, you will find out. AND it doesn´t have to last forever, but you know, that you still love that person even he´s hundreds kilometers away.
This winter time and especially this cold day, made me remember one sunny day at the most beautiful lake with shining sun and hot weather... lying on a grass, watching blue sky filled up with birds and playing a silly game- "Have you ever...?" with silly friend Joey. The worst thing is not that you´r missing that person, but that fact, that you can´t share with him what you´r living though right in the moments and the only thing you wish is - "Be HERE and sing that freaky song with me! I would not be only stupid one, on whose everybody´s staring at." (Our song-TS)
Hey Joey! You jerk! Have a question for you. SHUT UP.
